My 18 year old son dislocated his shoulder playing rugby.
We arrived at a packed out A&E where we waited 20 minutes before being taken to triage. He was given painkillers there and then. We were then taken to a room to wait on a doctor. There we waited roughly 40 minutes to see the doctor (in that time my son was x-rayed). The doctor and a lovely nurse popped the shoulder back in using IV morphine and Gas and Air as pain relief. He was then sent for one last X-ray to check it was back in correctly. All in all we were in A&E for 3.5 hours.
Each step of our experience was met with a friendly face. You could see they were all under a lot of pressure but none of the staff let it show. I am very grateful to each staff member who helped us last night. One special mention to Gary (a health care support worker) who popped in now and again to make us laugh (being an ex rugby player himself, he could relate to my son). Thank you NHS.
