"Care could have been more tailored"

About: Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

We visited the Royal Children's Hospital in Belfast at A&E. Unfortunately my son was quite ill and needed some treatment. He is severely disabled and requires 247 care.

Whilst the staff were very attentive and helpful, the dinner we'd asked for never arrived and as a result my son wasn't fed that day. We were admitted to a very small room unsuitable for a wheelchair user with no hoist to help move him to and fro from the chair to the bed. He was also given an unsuitable bed for his needs.

Whilst his level of care was standard, we felt it could have been more tailored to his needs.

Dear Twjw

Please accept my sincere apologies for your experience with catering within Royal Children's Hospital in Belfast at A&E.

I can imagine how upsetting this experience was for you and your son and it is certainly not the level of care that we would want our patients and their families to experience. Please be assured that I will discuss your concerns with the catering team and A&E to ensure that there is not a repeat of this breakdown in service.

Many thanks for raising your concerns at what must be a very difficult time for you, we are grateful that you have taken the time to do this so that as a team we can learn from your experience.

Regards
John Johnston
