Up until about a year ago I had very little contact with my GP - I recently retired from my job and went to my GP because I found I was having to get up during the night to urinate, which I didn’t have to before.
My doctor examined me for enlargement prostate, he referred me to the urology department at Belfast city hospital, at hospital they examined me and within a few weeks they had arranged a biopsy of my prostate, within another few weeks they arranged an MRI scan on my prostate and confirmed I had prostate cancer.
The urologist specialist doctor explained to me clearly what cancer I had and what my treatment options were. I opted for a prostatectomy which was arranged within another few weeks, I had the operation and thankfully all went well.
The doctors and nurses did a fantastic job before during and after my surgery, from first going to my GP until I was operated was around six months, I was offered physical exercise sessions at Bridgwater cancer Center which I took up and I found the session very therapeutic. I am grateful for all the treatment and support I received from the NHS where would we be without them.
