"Poor Oncology services"

About: St James's University Hospital / Gynaecological oncology

(as a relative),

Staff on reception were unable to manage patient arrivals and were reliant on the nursing teams to support.

The waiting area was very quiet but there was over an hour delay with no updates to patients. I would hope for an update on any delays after 30 minutes.

There was a white board in Suite One which would be useful to provide information about delays but it wasn’t filled in. There were sections to confirm the names of the nursing staff and reception staff on clinic but it was all empty.

There is a teenage section that sits alongside the main waiting area, sectioned only by a retractable banner. The noise from this area was excessive and not helpful for anxious older patients.

Clinicians called patients by full name and asked them to confirm their date of birth in front of other patients. What happened to patient confidentiality?

Two nurses had a consultation with a patient in the waiting room! and in front of other patients. The full conversation could be heard. Again what happened to patient confidentiality?

The waiting was cold, chairs uncomfortable and the television was a repetition of the same slides which isn’t sufficient to keep the mind occupied during long delays.
