I had an operation to insert a plate and screws to hold the bottom of my fractured femur together while it healed. The care I received in hospital was adequate, except for being shunted around from ward to ward and being discharged with noro virus.
Soon after arriving home, I received a visit from a member of the Community Care team who arranged for various aids - eg raised toilet seat and frame - and she returned that afternoon with them. Her care was excellent. Adam, a physiotherapist, has helped me improve the strength and mobility in my leg. He has been patient, fun and kind and ordered aids to help me eg bath seat. His care has been excellent.
I cannot praise the community care team enough, though I feel the hospital care during my stay fell short and although I wasn't treated badly, I felt the staff didn't really have the time to treat me as a person. Having said that, the outpatients fracture clinic staff have all been caring, compassionate and treated me like a human being not just another name on a piece of paper.
Perhaps there needs to be more resources given to patient care during hospital stays so patients who are not in the best frame of mind anyway, can feel they are being treated with dignity, respect, compassion and care and not just people on a conveyor belt.
"The all round care I received after I broke my leg"
