"Treatment of my father"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Surgery (Wards 16-18)

(as a relative),

My father was in ward 18 and the care given by most of the staff was great including the support staff.

My father was looked after by a nurse who when asked for painkillers for my dad told him that he would need to wait as they were busy with other patients - they were sitting at a desk in the corner doing paperwork and my dad never got his pain relief.

My dad gets dressings done twice a week in the community and this member of staff had looked after him for days and hadn't bothered to change the dressings.

I spoke to another staff member about taking my dad home as I felt this would have allowed me to care for him better, but he had to stay for his treatment so I was worried he was being left in agony. I have never been so upset.

Dear Kelly836,

Thank you for sharing your father's experience in University Hospital Wishaw, Ward 18.

I am so sorry to hear about the care your father received while staying with us. I can only imagine how worrying this must have been for you, especially if you had asked to take him home out of concern. It is very disappointing to hear that he was left without pain relief and that his dressings were not changed.

We take all feedback seriously as we want to do our best for our patients. Can I please ask you to contact University Hospital Wishaw Patient Affairs (details below) so they can understand all the issues in more detail, and get back to you personally?

I hope your dad is recovering well now.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
