"Recognition of amazing staff"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Orthopaedics (Wards 10a, 10b, 10c &10d)

(as the patient),

I want to highlight 2 members of staff that i have had recent encounters with who went above and beyond.

The first is a student nurse called Alixx who was on ward 2A at Crosshouse. I have been in an accident and thought I'd broke my back and could never work again, when  I arrived on the ward I had a panic attack, which I have not had for many years. Alixx was exceptional in her patient centred skills and was there for me. It makes me want to cry when I think about how she cared for me. She touched me with kindness, held my hand and it meant so much. She hugged me and most importantly she was very patient led. She asked me what I needed during the panic attack. She gave me dignity when I needed it, I can't thank her enough and truly hope she will get to see this.

The second is a call handler at Queen Elizabeth, not my usual hospital and I called as have been to an appointment there and had some questions. He was called Daniel. Daniel was very patient with me, and clearly took time to explain things in detail to me. He was very, very kind. I told him I was on a lot of medication due to my accident and he was so patient and explained the waiting times and even when I got a consultant's name wrong he went out of his way to make sure I had all the information I needed. Thank you so much.

Dear kemp767

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to share your healthcare experience with us via Care Opinion.

I am sorry to hear that you had to be admitted to hospital following your accident. Having a panic attack on top of this must have contributed to making this a very frightening time for you.

I am however, delighted to hear that you received such empathetic, professional and compassionate care from student nurse Alixx. It’s often the small things that can make such a difference, such as a kind touch or simply taking the time to listen. This is a lovely example of the patient centred care that we strive to deliver.

Our staff really appreciate receiving feedback from their patients and it will be my pleasure to share your kind comments with the wider Team in Ward 2A, and in particular with Alixx. I know she will be delighted to receive this feedback and it will be really encouraging for Alixx to know that you felt so well supported by her.

Please accept my best wishes for your ongoing recovery and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
