"Where is the care and compassion?"

About: Borders General Practices

(as a relative),

My elderly mother contacted the GP as she could not see following on from a bleeding nose the day previous day. The member of staff she spoke to said they would refer to a GP.

Member of staff called to say she would have to go to the BGH. My mother has mobility issues and advised the member of staff of this. She was told she could get an ambulance. No wonder the hospitals and ambulance service are stretched when this is the advice from the GP.

Where is the care and compassion? This feels to me very much like neglect once you’re past a certain age. When I compare this service to that of my own GP (Lothian) I am so grateful for what we have. I feel my mother's GP surgery is a sad reflection of the NHS in the Borders.

Dear errandpf56

I am very sorry to hear about the worrying symptoms experienced by your mother following a nose bleed and the need for her to attend hospital. I do hope she has now fully recovered from this.

In order for me to look further into this issue and respond accordingly, I would need further information such as your mother's name, date of birth and name of GP Practice.

Can you please contact me via email on karen.maitland@nhs.scot with this information and I will look into this further for you Alternatively, you can make contact with your mother's GP Practice yourself directly.

Thanks

Karen
