"No empathy from the Doctor"

About: Beech Tree Medical Centre

I am having CBT therapy for anxiety and my therapist suggested I need some medication to assist with my coping mechanisms but they are unable to prescribe so told me to speak to my GP. He wasn't interested in hearing why I was having therapy, just seemed annoyed he wasn't aware of it (I self referred as is recommended for mental health services) and told me to ask my therapist what medication he should prescribe. My therapist stated that they are not allowed to suggest any specific medication as they are not medically trained and don't know my medical history. So I am stuck without being able to get the medications that might help me.

On the same call with the GP, I pointed out that I had been unable to get one of my other medications since November 2023 due to apparent supply issues, hoping there would be an alternative. The Doctor was not interested in hearing what I was saying about all the different pharmacies I'd been to try and get this prescription filled and told me to go to the large boots in town (even though I'd just told him I'd been to Boots already). When I tried to say that I'd tried there he just dismissed me and told me they were much bigger and more likely to have stock.

I know that our GPs are overworked, but showing basic human empathy should not be too much to ask for
