"3yrs waiting for operation "

About: James Paget University Hospital

I was told I may have Cholosteatoma back in 2021, although some consultants are reluctant to confirm a diagnosis. Told we will know once you’re in surgery.

I’ve waited 3yrs for surgery. Lost 50% of my hearing. Daily symptoms have become unbearable. I can feel the damage this disease has done inside my ear and skull area. Left untreated this can cause sepsis, meningitis and even death.

Keep trying to get an update from the secretaries to just be told “the hospital is busy, doctors have been on strike”. Everything has been wholly insufficient.

I understand first hand the difficulty and pressures the NHS are under as I work in healthcare myself. But the treatment (lack thereof) I’ve received thus far is appalling.

I am on the verge of loosing my job as I have had to take so much time off sick due to my symptoms, when I told the secretary this she wasn’t bothered. I’ve tried to update ENT with the worsening of my symptoms, again they are not bothered.

Could I please urge you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Services (PALS) if you haven't already done so, on 01493 453240 or via e-mail: pals@jpaget.nhs.uk, so that we can obtain some more information and look into this for you.
