"District Nurse: treated us both with care and understanding"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Accidents & Emergency District Nursing / District Nursing - Antrim South

(as a carer),

A district nurse came to my home at a time that I was worried about my husband's health. She treated us both with care and understanding, not to mention respect. She assessed my husband and advised me to what his condition was and told me to take him straight to A&E.

At A&E we waited approx. 9  hours before a doctor came to see us. They never looked at my husband and tried to send me away with another antibiotic and cream, of which the doctor had already given.  When I tried to explain what the nurse had told me, they dismissed me and said that they were the doctor. I sought a second opinion from another doctor that I stopped in A&E who promptly got me help and confirmed that the district nurse was correct in her diagnosis.  If it wasn't for the district nurse taking the time to explain all to me I would have not fought for my husband.

She has since been back and checked in and I owe her a great gratitude.

I also want to thank all the nurses that attended my husband as they all were extremely professional and friendly.

Hello aircd47,

My name is Glynis Whittle, I am the Community Locality Manager and Lead Nurse for Antrim and Ballymena. Thank you so much for taking the time to express your thanks for the care and support provided by the Antrim South District Nursing team..

I am pleased to hear that this team were very understanding of the concerns you had raised about your husband's condition and provided you both with the appropriate action to take. I am also glad that your husband received the appropriate care in A&E and is hopefully making a good recovery. I am delighted to hear that you have had a good experience of the Antrim South District Nursing team and it is good to hear that they continue to check in with you and your husband.

I will ensure this message of recognition is passed to the team.

Kind regards

Glynis
