"Staff not able to help"

About: Royal Cornhill Hospital / Adult mental health

(as a relative),

My sister was taken to Royal Cornhill Hospital by the police and ambulance crew after a terrible episode which I won’t go into detail with, and she was taken in.

The staff allowed my sister go outside for a cigarette when she was clearly not fit to. She managed to escape. Thankfully due to police Scotland's rapid response time she was found around an hour later. The police did their best and took her back to Cornhill where our nearest family and her partner had rushed in to see her.  After no more than three hours, she was discharged and my family were told that we are interfering too much. Just only one hour after coming home, she had escaped the house on a rampage and the police had to arrest for the second time.

What needs to happen before my sister is kept in and given the medical help that she’s so desperately needs? With all this talk of mental health, mental health, all over the news all over social media and it seems everyone is trying to help - yet nothing done on this occasion.

Does it have to be the case that someone is hurt or my sister is hurt before they take it seriously? Unfortunately now the police have had to arrest her again, we are having to go through the same situation again. I am very mad at how this has been handled and our whole family are distraught. They need to get their act together before it’s too late!

My sister is a loving caring woman who would do no wrong, but unfortunately her mental health has took a dramatic turn for the worse in the past few weeks.
