About: Antrim Area Hospital / Ward C4 Male Surgical

(as the patient),

I had an emergency colostomy. I was discharged from hospital with a large abdominal surgical wound, it was very long, deep & wide, I initially had a VAC bandage system to help with the healing. I was feeling very low through the initial surgery and being discharged with this wound and also learning to live with a stoma.

Hello Mady0105,

My name is Bernie and I am the Interim Lead Nurse for Surgery in the Northern Trust.

I am sorry to hear that you felt low following your surgery and I just wanted to check that you are being followed up in the community by the Stoma nurses as they can help you to adapt to this life changing surgery. If this is not the case please let me know and I will arrange a follow up for you.

I hope that you continue to recover and that your wound is healing.

Kind Regards

Bernie.

Update posted by Mady0105 (the patient)

Hi Bernie, I was just low at the surgery the care and confidence the Stoma nurses Karen, Tracey & Victoria gave me was fantastic. They went out of the way to help as I actually had to have 2 operations due to an initial problem with the stoma. They were great at getting everything sorted. As were the nursing staff on ward C4. I was in there over Christmas & New Year.
