"I do not feel confident"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Maternity unit

(as the patient),

I recently went for my 20-week scan at Forth Valley Hospital. With this being our first baby, we as a couple were excited for it. We were met by a member of staff doing our ultrasound 20-week scan. We tried to have conversations with them during it about the scan and got blunt answers back! No smiles no warm, friendly attitude at all!

I was asked to leave the room to empty my bladder before the end and leave the door open, which I did. During this time as I walked out and left it open, the member of staff grabbed the door behind me and said leave the door open and pulled it off me to wide open!

It is a shame that as a couple you go to experience this incredible moment together and then have someone taking it to ruin any moment you wanted to be happy! I also told them I had a worry a few weeks ago not feeling the baby for two days and they just ignored my comment completely. No reassurance etc. No questions at all - is this our first etc - or any form of a friendly conversation.

We also got one photo only of our scan vs our 12-week scan where we got 3. It’s also very zoomed in. I so far also have not either received the same midwife yet.

I am extremely concerned to have my baby at Forth Valley from my experience so far! Any time I have had to phone triage I have also been passed off. I got told at 13 weeks when I bled that it was implantation. 13 weeks later which does not sound correct! No checks done, nothing!

I expressed at another appointment with midwife that I had numbness in my gluteus maximis since around 6 weeks, ongoing discomfort and pain, I was told this was sciatica so to get used to it! No referral to physio or check. I paid privately as had no choice due to the pain and it is not this, the physio was disgusted I had not been put for referral!

As I said to the midwife, I wanted to try make it better before my bump got bigger and impacted on me more.

As I say I have zero faith and do not feel confident going forward to have my baby here being a first time mum and so far this is my experience!

Dear Harqe36

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback and please be assured this is not the care that we would expect a woman to be receiving at Forth Valley so I am keen to discuss this further.

I am very disappointed and I apologise that this has been your experience. Care opinion is an anonymous platform so to enable me to look into this further can I ask you to contact me on the email address below, confirming your name and telephone number.

I hope your pain has settled a little and I would encourage you if you have any concerns to continue to contact maternity triage or your maternity team for advice.

Best Wishes

Alison McBride
