"The support and compassion we received was immense"

About: Limavady Health Centre Paediatrics / Ward 6 Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick children / Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

(as a parent/guardian),

Hi there

My young 13 year old soon became fatally unwell at the end of February with Meningococcal Septicemia

Although this has been the most heartbreaking time for us as a family I’ve no doubt in my mind the outcome wouldn’t of been as positive without the high standard and quick thinking proactive response of Dr Brolly Scroggy Road health centre limavady

There hasn’t been a day I don’t thank god that is was her that day he seen and the care and time she spent with him a true life saviour for us and we will be forever grateful ❤️ A true earth angel that helped save our wee man and her care and compassion continues such a special lady ❤️

Alongside this we met the most dedicated nurse practitioner Kathy on ward 6 Altnagelvin whom actively led a team of nurses to get him the vital emergency care he required at this time which was immense as a family we will be forever grateful to all that saved our little boys life whilst showing us care, compassion and reassurance at the most difficult time in our lives.

He was then rushed to the Royal Hospital in Belfast to the Paediatric Intensive Care unit. During Our time spent in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children the care was amazing and the support and compassion we received as a family was immense we will be forever grateful as a family for the high standard of care our son received as I’ve no doubt it saved his life.

Too often we only hear of the negative stories about the NHS at the minute but as a family we could not possibly put into words how highly we think of them all.

We are back now in Altnagelvin as he starts his road to recovery and the care, support and kindness is immense there really is no words that would seem enough to show our appreciation each and everyone of the team on ward 6 are just amazing.

To often we hear so much negativity about the health Service at present but as a family we will be forever grateful for how they saved our little boy.

Dear Your are amazing

I hope you and your lovely son are keeping well and he continues to make a full recovery.

Thank you for taking the time to post your most heartwarming comments on the care your son received from our staff. Kathy is indeed a credit to the team and we are lucky to have her. We are also blessed with a team of caring, compassionate staff who take pride in the care they provide. You and your son are very highly thought of by all the staff and we are all delighted to see how well he is doing.

Your comment on the negativity around the health service is so true and this can impact on the morale of staff who are giving their best. This makes feedback from parents like yourself so reassuring that we are achieving the standards we work towards.

Thank you again from Kathy, the staff and myself for your comments.

We all send you, your son and family our kindest regards.

Yvonne Devenney (Ward Manager)

Dear Your are amazing,

Thank you! We really do appreciate the compliment!

Thank you for taking the time to share what must have been a very traumatic experience with your son, and for taking the time to acknowledge the support, treatment and care you and your family received, and still are receiving, in Altnagelvin Hospital.

I cannot begin to imagine the fear and anxiety you and your family will all have been going through and I am so pleased to learn that your son continues on his road to recovery. I am really honoured to read the part that our staff, and the staff from throughout the health services, have played in that.

I have passed your kind words on to the team in PICU who are delighted to hear back from you and also thrilled to know that your son is continuing his recuperation in the safe hands of their colleagues in Ward 6.

We have dedicated teams of people, who have all been dealing with a sustained period of pressure throughout the health service, and we will always continue to do the best we can for our children, and for their families, and your kind words just reinforce why we do, what we do!

Again, thank you for your recognition, and I hope you and your son both continue to get through this very difficult period.
