"Overwhelmed by East Ayrshire Council"

About: Locality Health and Care Services / Care at Home - South Social Work services / Social Work teams - Kilmarnock

(as a relative),

The care and attention given to my elderly mother (and our family) from the staff and representatives of East Ayrshire Council has been absolutely wonderful.

Having had an awful experience with a private care company after my mother's stroke in 2020, we were sceptical about the Council replacing them with EAC Staff. After 4 years of care, my honest comparison is that it’s like putting a clapped out  Mini (Private Care Co) beside a Rolls Royce (East Ayrshire Staff).

Excellence in training is clear. The carers visited mum two at a time, four visits per day, they were always polite, professional and kind to Mum , and equally respectful and friendly towards my family. They were always accommodating and prepared to negotiate with the family , it just needed us to ask. This was something our experience with the private company had proved to be quite confrontational at times.

The Council carers treated our family home with the courtesy and respect that is a clear reflection of the training, and customer service that it’s only fair to expect as a family inviting strangers into your home

A heartfelt thank you to the Home Carers from East Ayrshire Council, the Community Alarms carers, The Equipment Stores of EAC (always ready to supply and repair all the wear and tear of prolonged use). Any Management we have dealt with from EAC have been superb, after the horrendous experience of the private company and their many failings, we had to check our attitude when dealing with the EAC staff, we literally came from what felt like a defensive position, expecting backchat and confrontation, to meeting carers whose primary aim was the sincere care of our elderly Mum, it took us a wee while to trust that this was for real, but after 3 years I can happily testify that these guys are the real deal.

They are human beings and they can easily make mistakes, but communication is a two way street, so if something goes wrong or causes upset be gentle and understanding and my personal experience is that it’s quickly reciprocated.

It’s nice tae be nice !

I also want to take an opportunity to thank the East Ayrshire Council Social Work staff, above and beyond the call of duty every time we dealt with them (and it must be acknowledged that I’m talking about them working with us over the very worst of the Covid period when they were clearly under unbelievable pressure). Again, highly trained professionals, polite and responsive and their experience deserves to be trusted and given serious consideration. They always put Mum first in every circumstance, for that we thank you.

Our Mum passed away recently, a passing made so much easier for her and us her family because of the care, love and kindness of the staff of East Ayrshire Council, and for that we are blessed and eternally grateful.

Thank you.

Thank you mjcos1 for taking the time to post this lovely message and I am so pleased to hear this recognition of our staff and teams and the high value you and your family place in them.

I am sorry to hear of your mother's passing, but am comforted that she received the best care from our teams.

If you wish to share specific details of your mother with me by emailing at craig.ross@east-ayrshire.gov.uk I can ensure we pass these thanks to specific staff involved.

Once again, thank you for passing on these kind words.

Kind regards

Craig
