"A wonderful patient-focused service"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Emergency Surgical Unit (EMSU) Antrim Area Hospital / Ward C4 Male Surgical

(as a carer),

My father-in-law was miserable and in pain. he had a bowel complaint that was causing him terrible symptoms, he couldn't sleep and had stopped eating.

He did not want to go to hospital and we were so worried about him.

The EMSU / Ambulatory surgical service of Antrim Hospital saw and treated him quickly, effectively, efficiently and with compassion. Mr McAree and Mr McGuiness, together with all the staff of EMSU and the male surgical ward were fantastic!

I have worked in healthcare for over 25 years and want to communicate how wonderful this service is and how rare it is to find such a wonderful patient-focused service.

Thank you so much

Hi Horologiumdp78

My name is Helen Davis and I am an Advanced Nurse Practitioner working within EMSU.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us on your experience of EMSU. Working within healthcare yourself, you will appreciate how difficult how hard it is for patients to access secondary healthcare for an acute condition unless through ED which is challenging when patients feel so unwell. This was one of the reasons we started EMSU. EMSU works well as patients can have direct access when referred from their GP meaning less delay to assessment and treatment. I'm glad your father in law was able to avail of this service and I hope he is now recovering well.

Our unit is open 4 years now and we value feedback as it helps us to shape our service to improve quality of care for our acute surgical admissions. I will be sure to pass your feedback on to our hard working staff including Mr Mc Aree and Ms McGuinness, they will be delighted.

Regards

Helen
