I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis and was referred to Physiotherapy at ERI last year for advice/guidance on possible supports for my hands. My fingers, knuckles etc are quite swollen and all my fingers have drifted over time due to ulnar deviation. I was unsure if there would be any appropriate help available as I have had quite a lot of advice over many years and found much of it to be unhelpful in my situation.
I met Shirley (Senior Physiotherapist) nearly a year ago and over the following months (with a break due to my hip replacement) she has constructed customised night splints for me, having initially provided me with “off the peg” splints which were unsuitable for my needs. Over a number of visits Shirley moulded these to my hands, reassessing my needs with me after each minor alteration and sufficient opportunity for me to trial them at home. Together we were able to ensure they were, ultimately, comfortable and manageable for me. I now use each splint on alternate nights, and on some evenings, and feel they are of benefit in reduction of pain and improved sleep. I wanted to write this to ensure that my very positive experience is shared with others and thank those concerned for the time, care and attention I received.
"Hand splint construction with excellent care and service"
