"Left me feeling more optimistic and positive"

About: NHS 24 / Breathing Space (Phoneline)

(as a service user),

I have nothing but the highest commendation for this service.

I have bipolar disorder with no family and minimal social support. Although I engage with psychiatry I have found the services to be lacking to say the least and have little faith in them.

I have used breathing space for several years and very recently when I feel low or my thoughts become overwhelming. I have always found staff to be courteous, professional, polite and most importantly caring. They take the time to listen, talk to you like you are a human being and never belittle the issues.

Talking with them allows me to gain clarity of my thoughts. In the past I would have to attribute breathing space staff with saving my life as I knew someone cared enough to listen in the middle of the night. Last time I called I told Sarah at the beginning of the call I felt insignificant in the world. By the end of our call I just felt like every other person who had things to deal with, a feeling that left me more optimistic and positive.

I am always reassured they are there if I need them and I cannot thank them enough.
