"Amzing social care support worker"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran Social Work services / Social Work teams - Kilmarnock

(as a relative),

My dad recently started to exhibit some behavioural changes awaiting diagnosis. Social care became involved in getting him support and services to remain at home. Lilian became our go to person for all his social care needs and liaising with both the local council social care and NHS.

After some very difficult and distressing behaviour from my dad, Lilian has been so supportive, going above and beyond her job role, not only supporting my dad but also my family. She has took the time to explain the process of urgent care and how the local services will operate to support my dad. After a recent incident where it became unsafe for my dad to remain at home, as a risk not only to himself but also family members, she personally assisted myself in getting emergency medical assistance.

Where we as a family were struggling to get an emergency situation sorted with GP and regarding my dad, she took it upon herself to speak for my dad and us a family, She kept in constant contact with the GP stating concerns for my dad and family safety (unable to remain at home). After GP frequent errors regarding his care and safety and their inability to mange the situation, Lilian  was able to provide us support and information on what the GP were doing to get my dad emergency admission to hospital. She kept in constant contact with the GP surgery and my family.

I just wanted to state not only from myself, family but that from my mum that Lilian had been amazing, caring, respectful and a true campaigner on our behalf to get treatment, urgent care for my dad in what has been a very difficult and distressing time for us all. Her caring and compassion not only for her job but mostly importantly her clients, people she supports, has been second to none, well above and beyond her job role. In the words of my mum "she has been a god send, we would never have coped or got anywhere with regard to my husband's care if not for her".

Can't put into words just how much of caring, professional, compassionate person she is, East Ayrshire council should be extremely proud of this well thought of member of their staff. Always returned phone calls, kept in frequent contact and tirelessly "fought"  to get my dad the emergency medical admission he required.

Dear Heather30

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback on your father's healthcare experience with us via Care Opinion. It is heartening to hear that you had such excellent input from Social Work and that your father and your family were well supported.

I am so sorry to learn that you did not have such a positive experience with your father's GP Practice and felt that there were errors and an inability to manage the situation. In order to help with this, the primary care team can liaise with the GP Practice to make them aware of your comments and ask them to look into this further to try and prevent this happening again. To do this, please can you send an email to HSCPAdmin@east-ayrshire.gov.uk (marked for the attention of Primary Care) providing your details and the name of the GP Practice your father is registered with.

If you wish to remain anonymous, we can feed back your comments to the GP Practice for their awareness and learning.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and hope that your father and your family are continuing to receive appropriate care and support.

Kind regards

Danielle
