"I’m frustrated that I was not told anything about running late"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 21-23)

(as the patient),

I had an appointment with the consultant about my knee getting fixed. I was given an appointment then was asked to come 2 weeks earlier, which I agreed to. My appointment was in the early evening, so over a couple of days I arranged all my deliveries so I could to get to my appointment early to not to waste the consultant's time. I'd already been up since 6am so at work I’d done most of my deliveries and asked a fellow sales person to do my last one but as I was ready to leave the consultant asked me to go for X-rays, which I thought, what a time to ask me to do that when he had days to ask me to do the X-rays. So it was annoying as it was heavy traffic time.

So anyway I left and got to the hospital then went for X-rays but the X-ray staff had no idea I was booked in, so annoying again. As I sat people from wards were wheeled in so annoyed me again but I got the X-rays done. Managed to get to the appointment 10 minutes early so went to the desk, checked in and asked to sit down. The appointment time came, no call. 10 minutes later came, no. So I sat. The two nurse are standing all this time talking. 20 minutes came, no call. 30 minutes came, nurses still talking. Then I was shouted and thought, at last, but to my disappointment I was taken to a room, weight and height taken, then asked to fill in a form. So 40 minutes came, still sitting and two nurses chatting. 50 minutes, I decided no more. So I went up to the chatty nurse and they said the consultant is running late.

I’m frustrated that I was not told anything about running late. Two nurses just chatting. Looking at my letter asking me to turn up in time, no consideration at what I had to do to make this appointment. Consultant out of order but still no one has called me. I feel the hospital management need to be looked at as on that day I just seen money wasted and time wasted.

Dear Johqq36

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch. I am sorry to hear about the delays at your outpatient appointment and I understand your frustration and upset. Our clinics times can run over, but we would expect the staff to provide updates about any delays. Your feedback will be shared with the Senior Staff to see how we can improve this and staff will be reminded to provide patients with updates if the clinic is running late.

Kind Regards

Nicole
