I was admitted for a short stay following a urine infection that turned nasty. During the day, the stay and the staff was exceptional. The consultant was very impressive he had an holistic approach and treated me as a person, an individual. I have several ailments including brittle bones, ongoing heart issues and fluid on my lungs and this consultant looked at ways to get my pain under control and treat all my illnesses not just the infection.
I was less impressed with my stay during the night as there was some dementia patients on the ward and I felt that the night staff didn't always handle this right as I feel there was not enough of them to cope. The patients would start to become distressed and upset and this took the staff time to sort, as a result I missed out twice on my medication and had to remind them.
The ward sister Helen deserves a special mention and a nurse called Lorraine who had a way of soothing and dealing with patients.
