"Absolutely amazing"

About: CGL Birmingham / Central & West Hub

(as a service user),

Absolutely amazing, before I started I was scared, miserable and drinking too much. I was scared of being in a group. Wow the groups have given me more confidence. First steps all the people and workers are so supportive and gave me skills and ideas to help with my recovery. The alcohol groups have made me aware of how much I'm drinking, through the drinks diary and made me aware how to workout units and how many units I'm drinking a day.

With intuitive recovery giving me information on how the brain works it has given me skills along with the CGL groups giving me skills to control my drinking. I am now much more happier I have cut down from 16 units to 8 units. CGL is amazing and I am so grateful for their patience and help, and always having a smile on their faces no matter what situation they are dealing with.

There is no crackers this week, me and Junior are devastated.

Lisa, Paddy and Candice are amazing

Dear composerrw35

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

I’m Lydia and I work in the team that listens and responds to people’s feedback.

It sounds like you had been going through an incredibly difficult time when you first made contact with our service and like your fears and alcohol use were getting in the way of you being able to move forward and live a happier life. You must have felt so stuck back then, and I am so glad that despite feeling scared you found the courage to push through those feelings.

It was so lovely to read about the amazing experience you have had and how you have been supported to gain the skills and ideas you needed for your recovery. Group support can feel incredibly daunting, and people often dismiss it as an option for them because of this. I hope you recognise that the new levels of confidence you have found and the knowledge you have picked up, would never had of happened if you hadn’t of had such an open mind and made the choice to give groups a try.

It was great to hear you’ve been on the Intuitive Recovery course as I hear really great feedback about this support and I’m really happy that you have also benefitted from the course too. I’m so glad you now have a better understanding of how your brain works and that you feel much more in control of your drinking. Cutting down your drinking by half is an absolutely amazing achievement, and I hope you continue to feel the benefits this change has brought to your life.

Your kind words about our support were lovely to read and I will make sure Lisa, Paddy and Candice, and the team at Intuitive Thinking Skills, get to see it. I’m sure everyone will appreciate your feedback and will feel honoured to have played such an important role in your recovery.

I think where you’ve mentioned ‘crackers’ in your feedback, you might be referring to some of the snacks that are provided within some of our group sessions? Please forgive me if I am wrong and do get in touch via Care Opinion to let me know. Assuming I’m right, I’ll mention this to the team so they can make sure these are provided consistently. I’m sure they will take this on board as we appreciate gestures like providing snacks, is all part of the positive experience and I'm sorry that this wasn't the case during the week that you wrote your feedback.

Thank you again for getting in touch with us.

hope you continue to go from strength to strength and that even more happiness will come your way in the future.

Best wishes,

Lydia

Thank you so much for your response, the part about crackers was a joke sorry, but they was bringing in prawn crackers for a couple of weeks, me and Junior loved them on the day I wrote my piece there was no prawn crackers so Junior and I laughed about it and I told him after I wrote my piece not to worry I’ve mentioned the prawn crackers, he laughed but we definitely do not go to cgl to get fed and we don’t expect to be fed whilst being there sorry if there has been a misunderstanding but we love you all

Hi composerrw35

Thanks so much for getting back to me and clarifying this.

I suspected as much, but didn't want to assume just in case and sorry if my last response has cause you any worry. Your recent message will be passed onto the team and I'm sure they will appreciate your humour. No apologies are needed at all as being able to laugh and have a joke about things is so important in recovery.

I'm just super glad our group support has been so helpful to you. We really do appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences. So many people avoid group support due their anxieties or some lack of belief that they won't help. So it's lovely when people like your good self endorse them, and praise the staff who deliver them.

Hopefully somebody who is doubting group support will read your feedback one day, and it may help them to give them a try and go from strength to strength in their recovery too!

Thank you again for getting back in touch and I hope you have a lovely day!

Best wishes,

Lydia
