"Lack of consistency in care of patient"

About: Medicine for the Elderly / Ward 6

(as a relative),

- Staff shortages noticeable

- Not dressed properly

- Lack of consistency in care of patient

- Staff are friendly and trying, but not all

- Lack of encouragement for tasks patient able to do

- Would be nice for a handover sheet for family and staff, this might free staff having to answer questions when family visit.

- Medication changes not passed on or explanation given

- Family not listened to and spoken abruptly to, not helpful

- Frustrating as a relative when you can see what isn't being done.

I am a Charge nurse on ward 6, and was disappointed to hear of your experience.

We aim to promote independence with our patient group to see them set goals to enable them to have a speedy, and safe discharge. I have spoken to some of the staff regarding the issues mentioned, as this is not acceptable, we aim to make each of our patients, and their relatives/visitors welcome and to keep relatives updated with any changes to medication, care provided, and discharge planning.

I apologies for your experience, and I would be very happy to discuss these issues further, if you wish.

Kind Regards

Debbie Booth
