"It's good to know this service is here should I need it"

About: Community Mental Health Services / Perinatal Mental Health Service

(as a service user),

I was referred to Denise at the perinatal mental health team for extra support during my first pregnancy. I have kept well in terms of my mental health for many years with support from my psychiatrist and family. Pregnancy and motherhood, is a huge change and I was worried that I may have relapsed throughout this period. Luckily I've kept well and I am loving my new role of Mum to my beautiful baby girl.

Denise was hugely supportive and reassuring, reminding me that highs and lows are part of normal pregnancy/post-partum and helping me understand what options I had should my mental health take a turn. Denise was also happy to speak with my partner about our options so he was prepared too.

Pregnancy and motherhood is a momentous change, and I'm grateful to have had the support I've had from Denise. Despite being discharged, it's good to know this service is here should I need it over the next year with my daughter or any other pregnancies in future.

Thank you for taking the time to tell your story. This will be shared with Denise and the perinatal team who I am sure will appreciate your kind comments. Wishing you well.
