About: Fife Community Services / Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Service (RCDS)

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

After a period of feeling unwell which included back pain, difficulty swallowing, stomach upsets, I decided to make a GP appointment.

Cancer runs in my family and half of my close relatives have passed away through cancer.  As you can imagine that was my fear.

After my GP referral I was dreading the results of any tests I would be having. The speed of service delivered by the RCDS team removes that fear within days. I had a scan, X-ray, endoscopy all very rapidly.  The results were all clear, which of course was extremely reassuring.

How would I describe my experience?  A well organised, caring, professional team who put you the patient first and foremost. The staff go the extra mile to put you at ease and explain the process but most importantly they do it with a sense of urgency, knowing that this must be a worrying time for individuals.
