I am extremely disappointed with the rearrangement of facilities for the clinic. I was asked to sit in a regular waiting room with pensioners & others and when I was called I didn’t go straight to another room, I was asked for a urine sample in front of everyone. Then I was taken to what can only be described as a cubby hole with a curtain across the opening - this space was small, my bathroom is larger; the nurse struggled to get past me whilst I was sitting on a chair and I’m not big, a size 4-6. We were having to whisper so that we weren’t overheard. This is not the place and space for a matter as personal as it is (or the fact that patients in the waiting room now knows that you need the morning after pill and is judging you). Do you think young people are going to have the confidence to discuss issues, many after plucking up the courage to visit and are faced with very little privacy…. I think not.
Also, one day a week, what are you thinking? Not everyone can come out of work, not every youngster can skip or even should skip school for a service as important as this! I think the lack of flexibility is outrageous, this service has gradually been cut and is being stripped back - do we want or need more teenage pregnancies or sexually transmitted diseases spreading because people can’t access the help they need?
I think you need to look at the bigger picture and pull your socks up!
None of the above can be put onto the nurses as they are doing the best they can with the pitiful surroundings, they are are a credit to you - shame the same can’t be said for the department the facilities are housed in.
I’m sure that this won’t make one bit of difference, but if you have anything about you, you should be fighting for your staff and patients!
