"No time to listen"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

On a visit to the outpatients department, the doctor did not ask how I was or if I'd had any further issues and seemed to want me out of the room as quickly as possible. Even though I'd waited since last spring for an appointment and 45 mins in the waiting room, this is not inclusive of my 30 mins travelling time too.

The doctor told me that my results were clear which is good. They did not appear to look at my notes as they asked if I had any other health conditions. Which I told them about. And I had to point out that the CT scan I had in hospital when I was admitted was not clear and showed inflammation in my colon. They were eager to tell me that they thought the pain was psychological and that this is common. To which I tried to tell them that I was still having issues, however they were very dismissive, wouldn't let me speak and told me again that it was probably psychological. I tried to show them where I was getting the pain but again was dismissed and they did not ask any further questions.

They made me feel uncomfortable and that my feelings and pain were simply 'in my head'.  Their demeanour towards me from the minute I entered the room seemed rude and their actions felt misogynistic. I felt I was seen by a rude, unhelpful Dr with no time to listen, show care or empathy for patients and make them feel listened to, which I believe should be all the qualities of someone in a patient facing role.

Dear hippozp77

I am sorry that you experience was not what we expect when you visit the hospital. Please can I ask for more details so that I am able to investigate further. I will need the name of the clinic that you attended and if possible the name of the consultant. Thank you

Best wishes

Diane
