"Confusing signage"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre

(as the patient),

I recently attended an outpatient appointment at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

It was my first time at the Beatson and I found the building quite disorientating, being in the form of a circle. Some of the signs confused me (like signs for outpatient check-in which were no longer valid - it took me to the Aroma café on both the ground floor and first floor). I felt like I should have worn a big badge saying “This is my first time here”. People were understanding when I explained that I felt a bit lost, both in the physical sense and generally feeling overwhelmed by the whole experience.

I also struggled to find the exit. My appointment and tests lasted 2 hours and I desperately needed to get out once it was over. The only exit I could find had a sign that it was open in daytime hours only. Thankfully it was still open because I was feeling quite panicky by that point and I couldn't see any other way out.

Dear pegasusxh49,

I am so sorry that you had such difficulty finding your way around the Beatson. This must have caused you more stress during an already difficult time. Thank you for taking the time to feed this back to us. I will share this feedback with our Facilities team and look at improving the signage. We also have a Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre website that patients and visitors find helpful.
