"Lack of proper treatment."

About: East Of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Was admitted via ambulance. Cannot fault that part, they were excellent.

I was taken into a&e in extreme pain and was placed in a chair. There I stayed for 10 hours. There were beds occupied by some inebriated men. Even though  I asked several times for a bed due to the severe discomfort, none were available.

I was being admitted and a bed was found for me late at night. There I stayed for for I think 10 days. Even though my problem was renal, I saw 2 Dr's only and had to ask persistently to be seen by 1. Both differed on my diagnosis.

After a very firm moan about my treatment, or lack of, the Matron came and had me moved to the top floor where I should have been at first apparently. After leaving, I am still waiting to have a proper diagnosis and to be seen or even spoken to.

Absolutely worst treatment.

Dear Freddie Fluff

You deserved better, and we clearly let you down. Regrettably, this situation is being encountered in hospitals nationally and whilst it is unavoidable, we acknowledge that our patients deserve much better and that we are not providing the levels of care which our patients deserve. Unfortunately, the situation within the hospital was such that there were more patients needing admission into hospital than the number of beds available. With an increased number of patients needing admission into hospital, there is extra strain on the ED because those patients who are waiting for beds remain in the ED. Space within the ED is finite and this means that we have to consider the needs of every patient and make difficult decisions about how the available resources are allocated.
