"The staff put me at ease and helped me get through it"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Breast Clinic University Hospital Wishaw / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I recently had breast surgery - I was given the diagnosis of cancer in December, and had surgery 8 weeks later.

During those 8 weeks I used the NHS L Elsie app which I was extremely grateful for as this let me fill in the numerous health check documents and kept me in touch with breast care nurses without having to visit the hospital, the only hospital visits that were needed were for MRI and ultrasounds.

The day of the operation I was taken to the day care ward within 10 minutes after arrival.

A lovely nurse, Tracy, helped me settle in and filled out the admission and consent forms, gave me a gown, and put me at ease.

The surgeon came to see me and explained the surgery to me and introduced me to the team.

The anesthetist introduced herself and we went through some questions.

After surgery I wakened in the recovery room and after monitoring was taken back to the day care ward.

Two lovely nurses looked after me, Gwen and Cheryl, and gave me my first cup of tea of the day, and helped me get ready for discharge.

Considering it was a day I was dreading, the staff put me at ease and helped me get through it.

The NHS staff who helped me through this are numerous, from ultrasound and MRI staff, the consultant Jennifer, the breast care nurses and the staff of University Hospital Wishaw day surgery. I cannot thank them enough.
