I drove myself to the MIU at Stirling with a suspected badly twisted ankle or broken ankle and was triaged by a nurse (?). I can’t exactly recall their name or badge, but I was struggling on my crutches and had a bag in one hand and they showed no empathy or made any offer to help me down the corridor to the triage room. They arranged for me to have an x-ray and then saw me again with the results, fractured fibula. I was then attended to by a lovely/caring nurse to fit my boot and their attitude was 100% at the other end of the scale, empathetic 😊.
The MIU wasn’t busy, I appreciate the staff would have been working the Christmas/New Year shift, but empathy and compassion are in my mind two of the most important aspects/qualities of the profession. My mother was nurse, my grandfather was a doctor and my business works in/around the NHS, so I feel able to comment and I hope that you are able to use my comments in a helpful way.
