"Absolutely shocked and disappointed"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

I was absolutely disgusted at the way my daughter was dealt with whilst on this ward. On more than one occasion during her stay, I found the staff so rude, very unhelpful, even the way a senior nurse spoke to my daughter during my visit.

Between waiting 2hrs for assistance to toilet, being given liquid meds whilst on the toilet and spilling it down my daughter, being told that she was moving to a 7-bed ward, not asked and very rudely spoken to. Even rude to myself when I went to speak to the senior nurse. Also being told a move for the 5th time, when meds should be 5pm given in 2a that she was off their system and she would get meds which were strong painkillers in new ward time now 7:30pm.

Absolutely shocked and disappointed. Staff members may be are under pressure, but surely they have to remain professional at all times to patients, and shouldn't talk about patients outside their door either, which is definitely not professional.  Patients are out of sorts with being in hospital and in lots of pain, they expect to be cared for not treated in this manner. Shocking stay.

Dear by Upsetting 15

Thank you for taking the time to share your daughter’s care experience with us via Care Opinion.

I am very sorry to read about your daughter’s poor experience whilst she was in Ward 2A. Please be assured that this is not the person-centred care that we aim for.

Whilst we always aim to provide care that safe, caring and respectful, we do recognise that sometimes there is room for improvement. Hearing of this directly from our patients and their loved ones is one of the best ways for us to learn and improve.

Unfortunately, it is difficult for us to look into specific concerns raised as Care Opinion is completely anonymous. However, your feedback has been passed to the ward team for them to reflect on how they could improve the experience for other patients admitted to the Ward.

Please accept my best wishes and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your daughter’s care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
