I've had bladder issues for a few years. I had a kidney scan in 2019, which showed cysts on my right kidney. I was seen by the community nurse-led bladder clinic (2022-2023) where I was advised to reduce caffeine and fluid intake. My instinct said the issue was related to kidney function due to other symptoms.
The bladder nurse also prescribed medication to reduce urine output. The nurse then referred me to urology. That was in May 2023. I waited patiently for my appointment as I had been told there was a year's wait time.
My GP called me recently regarding blood test results - potassium levels progressively increasing so need redone.
I then called the appointments department asking where I was on the waiting list for urology, only to find the referral had been removed by the consultant. Advice - eliminate caffeine intake (which I have already done) and further urine output reduction medication.
Would taking urine output medication cause rising blood potassium levels? Did the urologist consider that my bladder symptoms may be kidney function related rather than bladder irritation?
