"The excellent care I received during my stay"

Recently I went to the Day Surgery Unit at Good Hope Hospital for an operation on my Achilles. The care I received throughout the day was outstanding. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful whilst booking me in, then nursing staff greeted me and took me to my booth where Juliet did my paperwork. I was visited by 2 doctors and my surgeon and everything was explained and my queries answered. It was suggested that I should remain awake during the procedure but the doctor could see how distressed I was and agreed that it would be done under general anaesthetic as per my request.

I was pleased to be taken to theatre around 10am and the theatre staff made me feel so comfortable about the procedure. I was sedated whilst feeling that I was in very capable hands. (Mohammed and a lovely female doctor, who worked as a great team). 

I don't remember much about coming round after the operation, but I was well cared for in the recovery lounge.

Back on the ward I was allowed to rest and recuperate. My Care Assistant was lovely throughout the day and monitored me well. The sandwich, biscuits and tea were really tasty. Gail was one of my nurses who was so hard-working and helpful. Lucy from Physio was a great help to me as well. 

Dr Labidi and the other doctor came to see me later in the day to check I was OK. I really appreciated this.

The ward and bathroom were spotless, so thanks to the diligent cleaners. I was fortunate to have a very quiet booth, so it was very peaceful all day despite it being a busy ward.

I'd like to thank all staff involved with my stay for their professionalism, dedication and hard work. I'm aware that 12 hour shifts (and longer!) are exhausting and that the staff don't get many rest breaks. I really appreciate the great care I received.  Everybody was very focused on explaining procedures and having time to listen to me. The experience was nowhere near as stressful as I'd anticipated.
