My son was diagnosed with epilepsy at 3 months old. It was life-changing for our family and we often struggled with where to turn.
My son's epilepsy nurse Lesley has been an incredible support for us. No question goes unanswered, she links in with all relevant medical staff regarding our son's care. Without this vital service, I do not know how we would have coped with his diagnosis and Lesley has been a lifeline. She points us in the right direction in terms of information, contacting the relevant fields of medicine that need to be involved, and making sure our son gets the best care possible. His medication changes frequently, so we can turn to her for advice on his side effects, what we need to look out for, and helping us come to terms with what life could look like for our family.
It can be very isolating and scary to have a child with any medical condition. Lesley has taken the time to visit us in person, help us with medication doses, and be a pillar of support when I needed it most. I am eternally grateful for the incredible work she and the epilepsy team, at the NHSCT do. There is no question that I couldn't ask her and know I will get a response very quickly.
Families like ours need to have this service and Lesley has always gone above and beyond for us. I would love to see more investment from the trust in these services. I believe parents need to have the support to learn to care for their children with a new diagnosis properly, and doing so saves lives.
Lesley has been a superstar and I cannot thank her enough for everything she has done these last number of months
"I am eternally grateful for the incredible work"
