"Moving forward in a positive way"

On my way to Detox, I was feeling apprehensive, nervous and I wasn't sure what to expect with reference to the people that I will be living with during my detox.   I was frightened to be away from home and not being with my son.   Not being able to lock my bedroom made me feel uneasy.  However, I understand staff have to do welfare checks regularly.

The next morning, I threw myself into things, I was still a little nervous.    I made friends with other patients which made me feel at ease, I made a good groups of friends which was more like a family.  We have started a whatsapp group and will continue to stay in contact. 

It has been a really good all round experience, I really appreciate this chance I have been given; it is a second chance at life.   I fully intend to embrace it and move forward with my life in a positive way. 

I understand that in life there will always be ups and downs but after being here, I have realised that you have to keep going forward with life, taken one day at a time. 

The best part for me was making friends because before I was more of a recluse.  It was nice to know there is more people like me in the world.  It gave me hope hearing their stories. 

I am going to reconnect with my old friends who live a stable life.  I am going to join the gym to help maintain my recovery.

I enjoyed completing the group work and writing down my journey, which I will use to reflect back on to see how much progress I have made.  I will also refer to the activities to help me maintain my recovery.   It has given me confidence as I am normally a shy person.  However, speaking out in group has helped me face my fears and become more confident.

A second controller for the xbox would be better so you can play games in pairs.  Although, we enjoyed playing the board games in groups such as scattergories, which was a right laugh.

I found the staff really helpful, caring and friendly. 

The food was nice too.  We were well looked after.  I am really grateful for my stay and experience here.
