"Maternity Waiting Room"

About: Maternity care / Maternity and Gynaecology outpatient clinics

(as the patient),

I attend a Diabetic maternity clinic every few weeks. Recently they have introduced a policy whereby a healthcare professional walks around the waiting room talking to the patients about different aspects of prenatal and post natal care.

There is no way to opt out of this service. I am typically waiting here for two hours each visit and find it extremely unpleasant.

This information is offered in classes and through other means where people can choose to take part.

A high percentage of people accessing the service also do not have English as their first language so I would question how accessible the service is.

On a personal note, I am a full time working mother and would greatly value the time I have in the waiting room to read, respond to emails, or simply watch tv and relax. I find the noise to be extremely disruptive and unnecessary.
