Myself and my partner (same sex) found out we were pregnant in March after trying for a couple of years. We first met our midwife Gillian when we were around nine weeks pregnant.
Our midwife was amazing, she was welcoming and made us feel at ease with all the questions we had for her. Being a same sex couple we were apprehensive on how we would be treated but our midwife did not discriminate and was very supportive.
As the weeks went on in our pregnancy I began to struggle with pelvic pain. Our midwife did not hesitate to refer myself to physio and was very informative about the pain I was feeling which made me feel at ease. During the later stages in pregnancy a number of different things were happening from pelvic pain worsening, very itchy skin and in general it was very hard on my mental health as before pregnancy I was very active and this reduced to having to use crutches or wheelchair. Again our midwife was always supportive and listened to my emotional mental health state I was going through at every appointment which I will always appreciate.
I was scheduled in for a c-section at 39 weeks pregnant and even tho our midwife was not on shift she made sure we were okay and again reassured me numerous times that everything was going to be okay. This was great and myself and my partner will always appreciate the care, love and support that was shared with us during the most scariest but best times of our lives by our midwife.
