"Breast cancer"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Theatres, Recovery & Anaesthetics

(as the patient),

Went into hospital recently, got my operation, then went for my check up and was told I need another operation to take more away.

Consultant was very good and nice and so were the nurses and all staff in general, but now this is a big but.

Went to get my anaesthetic, took my plates for my teeth out, full top and 2 on the bottom plate, in the tub they went. After operation got my top plate back but my wee bottom plate has vanished, so I told them I put them in the bottom ones first and then the top ones, no could not find my 2 wee teeth on the plate were not there so the next thing they brought the x-Ray machine to make sure I did not swallow them.

Now come on, I’m of safe mind no I did not swallow them so now I’m left with no bottom teeth 🦷 now if I’m going out I will have to wear a mask because nobody has seen me with no teeth.

Dear julyhy73,

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion of University Hospital Wishaw, Theatres, Recovery and Anaesthetics.

I am so pleased to hear that the staff were all nice and you found the consultant to be good. This must have been very reassuring for you for your second surgery. I am however, very sorry to hear that following your operation the plate for your bottom teeth was missing. I can only imagine how you must be feeling as you advised you have to wear a mask if you go out.

Could I ask that you contact Patient Affairs at University Hospital Wishaw who will be able to look into this further and provide you with a personal response. I have included their contact details below.

Kind Regards,

Jenni

Dear julyhy73,

Thank you for taking time to feedback your experience on Care Opinion in regards to Day Surgery/ Theatres University Hospital Wishaw

It is reassuring to hear that all staff were very good and nice through your journey within the unit.

I am also sorry to hear about your negative experience regarding your dentures and how this has impacted on your day to day routines. This is clearly not the standard of care and communication that we aspire to and I can only apologise for that. We always want to achieve the best experience for our patients, and take all your comments seriously.

Your feedback will be shared with the teams so it can be used to review practice to avoid this happening in the future.

Should you wish to raise this further it would be helpful if you could contact our Patient Affairs colleagues on:
