"Neurodevelopmental Services Waiting Times"

About: Children's Specialist Health Services / Community Paedeatrics Children's Specialist Health Services / Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS)

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was referred to the Community Paediatric Team in March 2022. I was expecting to wait up to 2 years to be seen but called around the 20 month mark to be told that he had been onward referred to the new service but they would honour the original referral date.

I spoke with them and was told they had suspended their waiting times list so could not tell me when he was likely to be seen but that this would likely be back in place this year and to call back. I have just made that call.. spoke to a lovely member of the team who has told me that the waiting list is 4 YEARS long! We have 2 more years to wait.

My son is 12, he has started high school and is unaware that he is potentially on the Spectrum. We have some help in place for him but really need a proper diagnosis. 4 Years is far too long to wait for a child to get a diagnosis that will make sense of all the feelings and behaviours that they do not understand.

I am absolutely gutted at this update.
