"Outpatient gynae procedure"

About: Belfast City Hospital / Gynaecology Belfast City Hospital / Outpatients Services

(as a service user),

It is almost one year since I had the most horrendous experience of a hysteroscopy without anaesthesia which was explained to me before the procedure and I did consent to going ahead without fully understanding how this would be. I can only describe it as being traumatised and I am only now able to tell this story. I have since discovered many other women has experienced this and even worse experiences than myself. It is shocking that it continues to happen and someone somewhere should make sure it doesn’t.  The staff on the ward beforehand  were lovely but the theatre experience was horrible and I felt ashamed and weak afterwards and did not want to admit how I felt. I even completed a questionnaire afterwards stating how well I was treated.

Hi

My name is Paul McCarthy and I'm the Service Manager for Gynaecology and Sexual Health within Belfast HSCT.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us your feedback on your experience whilst attending for Outpatient Hysteroscopy. We appreciate all forms of feedback to help improve the service for the future.

We are glad to hear that you found the staff on the Ward lovely beforehand but are sorry to hear about your experience during the procedure.

We would like to offer you the opportunity to have this matter formally investigated to understand what has gone wrong and how we avoid it happening to another one of our patients.

To do this we would need a little bit more information from you and I would invite you to contact the Complaints Department on complaints@belfasttrust.hscni.net or if you are more comfortable about contacting me directly on my e-mail is paul.mccarthy@belfasttrust.hscni.net

Kind regards

Paul
