I spend a total of 3 days in and out of the emergency department at the women and children’s hospital for worsening acute pelvic and abdominal pain as I’m on the waiting list for investigative surgery.
The request to do an internal ultrasound from Out of Hours and my GP was a joke and shouldn’t have had to visit the department that many times. Luckily they got to the fact my pain may be worsened due to pre existing urological conditions and were very helpful once the problem was discovered.
Shout out to the Healthcare Support Worker and the nurse/midwife (whose name I’ve forgotten) you were absolutely amazing with me. A big thank you to the doctors who made allowances for my autism and past psychological trauma you were amazing and went above and beyond.
The junior doctor whose name I forgot as they spoke so fast and unclear and made 0 adjustments, I feel, shouldn’t work in such a sensitive setting. They were so unsympathetic and when I explained I had psychological trauma due to sexual assault and leaving a relationship recently where this occurred. They inquired still? They were so uncaring throughout the whole process and showed no concern when there was blood left over on the ultrasound probe. They were so dismissive throughout where as the other doctors performing internal examinations were so reassuring and made sure I felt safe during the process.
If it wasn’t for the Healthcare Support Worker and the Consultant I do not know what I would’ve done because honestly I was treated with care an compassion by every other individual yet the word "still” relating to a psychological trauma being dismissed continues to bother me when I reflect on the experience.
"I was treated with care an compassion by all but one"
