"Lack of GP appointments"

About: Middleton Lodge Practice

(as a service user),

For a couple of days I have experienced very unpleasant light headedness  nausea and dizzyness. I am generally well and have no on going health issues.

First thing this morning I telephoned my local GP practice, Middleton lodge in Ollerton to make an appointment, hoping to be able to have a consultation. The reception staff explained that there were no urgent appointments available as these had already been allocated. I called the surgery as soon as it opened at 8am, but was held in a que so accepted a call back.  When I reached the front of the line of people waiting to talk to the surgery.  The receptionist informed me that there were no routine appointments available until toward the end of January.

I was offered the option to attend the surgery that morning and sit and wait to be triaged and then potentially be seen, but this my take a couple of hours. They were very busy and had also had a Doctor call in sick. I was already at work as I start at 8am and the surgery does not open until 8am.

I  understand the pressures on the NHS and GP appointment slots, if I had taken the option to sit and wait this morning my whole days worth of home visits would have had to be cancelled. I did explain my situation to the reception staff and that trying to be 1st in the que on the GP telephone line at 8am every morning is not possible as I am in handover at work. This is very unsatisfactory.

Visiting the GP is a very last resort for me and not something I do very often. I am very saddened by this situation as I am very proud to work in the NHS and believe it to be a wonderful organisation, but even I feel let down by it today
