I frequently end up with high levels of upset in relation to my mental health, and part of my plan I am to ring the duty team 9-5 and crisis after 5pm to receive support when needed.
However, I make calls during the day to the LMHT and they do not respond. I can call in at 10am and by 5pm still not received a call back. 7 hours is a long time to anyone to receive support, but especially to someone in a mental health crisis. They advise to ring the crisis team after 5 pm, which I do, but they also don't contact you back. They are also so reluctant to talk to you, seemingly wanting to get you off the phone in 10 minutes, telling you to do distractions, despite you already doing them, hence the reason for the call as they are not helping.
You also can't ring crisis during the day, as they will just tell you to ring duty, but what do you do if they don’t respond? The only option left would be to sit in A&E to see the DPM, but this takes hours and a busy A&E is scary for someone having a mental health crisis.
We are asking for support and safety in the community, but this is extremely hard for patients to receive.
