"Indifference of the docs"

About: General practices in Tayside Ninewells Hospital / Accident & Emergency Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

I recently went to my GP due to my severe abdominal pain. The GP examined me and called for an ambulance to take me to Ninewells. The GP and the Ambulance staff were very kind and expected I will be given pain relief immediately at the Emergency ward and then investigations would be carried out to diagnose the pain.

I was in the Emergency ward at 1 pm, and there I lay on a bed writhing in excruciating pain, and the Doc saw me at 4 pm. My bed was right opposite to the nurses station and I saw 5 to 6 nurses standing and chatting there most of the time, and the doctor too joining them. The doctor walked past my bed several times but avoided eye contact even.

I feel the doctor was visibly avoiding me. I may never know why they did so. I have my own guesses why. Whatever the reasons were, this Doc had me writhe in pain for more than 3 hours and then came and brutally punctured my veins 5 times (junior Doc had tried it twice before and they knew my veins are difficult). The doctor seemed so angry and was scraping my skin and veins brutally.

I went through hell and can't change that, but if your organisation can take some action  - it will serve some purpose for the future patients.

Thanks.

In response to this message, I am very sorry you have had such a bad experience but to allow me to investigate and respond can I please have some clarity on which Emergency Ward you were admitted to, there is The Accident and Emergency Department with a Short Stay Emergency Ward, an Acute Medical Unit, Acute Surgical Unit and a Gynaecology Emergency Department?

Once I have sight of this information I will be happy to investigate or pass to colleagues who can.

Dear Browseron35

Thank you for taking the time to post your Feedback here on CareOpinion. I am very sorry to read about you being unwell and having to make use of our services as well as those of the wider NHS.

I am really pleased to read about comments made about our staff, describing them as 'very kind' and would be happy to pass on your comments to them if you would like? If you would like this to happen, please may we ask you email our Feedback team at sas.feedback@nhs.scot with your name, address and date of call out. It would be really useful if you could make reference to your username which will allow us to link up with this story.

I see you have already received a response from Linda Fox, Capacity manager, in relation to other aspects of your Feedback, of which I am sure will be really helpful.

I hope you are feeling much better and are on the road to recovery

Best Wishes

Lesley
