"12 - week -Nuchal Scan"

About: Wexham Park Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

We had our 12 week Nuchal Scan in November. According to our report there was a second operator and a supervisor however, there was no one else. We had a horrible experience. The staff had no bedside manner, the only thing explained during the appointment was that the baby has 2 legs, two arms and a heartbeat. Nothing else. At no point did they tell me that they struggled to get a clear view of the baby and my scan photos are very clear. However, they wrote on my report that they were restricted by body habitus, which wasn't the case as we visited a private scan and they had no issue.

Additionally, my midwife confirmed in review of the report in my Antenatal appointment that the staff member was a trainee and should not have been by themselves and that we should have been notified that they were still training, especially on such important scan. During the scan they made me extremely anxious and were obstructing the view, so I could not even see my baby for first time. When I tried to see it for first time, I was told to not move. There was no empathy or care, we felt like a just a number not as young family who is seeing their baby scan for first time. Upon finishing the appointment I left in tears, because of the way they made us feel. What was supposed to be a lovely experience turned to be an awful one.
