"Barium swallow"

My mum went for a barium meal at the end of November due to ongoing, worsening issues relating to reflux and her hiatus hernia. She was told that she would get the results within 5-10 days. It is now nearly the end of December and she has heard nothing. No information to the GP either. She has tried to contact her consultant's secretary multiple days in a row but has reached the answer phone every single time. On one occasion she had to call 34 times to even get the answering phone! When mum finally got to speak to the secretary, she was told the results haven't even been written up and no information can be given as it is up to the referring consultant to interpret the results given by Radiology. Being a Nurse myself, I can understand the pressure that the NHS is under, but to make a promise that cannot be kept is not fair on those they have been given to. My mum can no longer sleep through the night without having severe reflux issues that are causing her to aspirate her own stomach contents. This is worsening her asthma cough making day to day life more difficult. All we would like to know is do we need to be concerned but we can't even get that!
