"The start of my Breast Cancer journey"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Breast Clinic Royal Alexandra Hospital / Breast Clinic Royal Alexandra Hospital / Day Surgery Unit West Scotland Breast Screening Centre

(as a service user),

I was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The lump had been found during my routine over 50s mammogram. I had no idea it was there, and the whole diagnosis shook me, but at least it had been found.

The care I have received through my whole journey to date has been breathtakingly good. The treatment process to date has run like clockwork. Starting with the routine mammogram which found my lump (breast screen carried out in a portable unit in Bishopton Community Club car park :)), to the team at the Breast clinic in Glasgow, who helped test and diagnose me in such a kind, supportive and professional manner. Then the team at RAH Paisley hospital, where I had my breast surgery.

I could not be more grateful to each and everyone at RAH who helped me, what a fantastic team of very kind and incredible people.

From the kind lady in pre-op admin who went out of her way to change my appointment, this meant we could drive down to the Midlands so I could explain to my Dad face to face about my diagnosis and I could also see my cousin before they emigrated. This made a big difference to me.

To my breast surgeon, Ms Revie, who explained to me so well what the plan for my treatment was and who carried out my surgery with such care along with the whole team of theatre staff were reassuring and attentive.

Last but absolutely not least the brilliant day surgery team who looked after me so well. Special thanks to Amy who looked after me during my stay along with the the lovely lady who kept me topped up with Tea and Toast. The treatment I received has been second to none. You are all the reason I am sat here at home, 6 hours after my completed surgery, with the dog at my feet and my husband at side and a slightly sore boob :)

Thank you is not enough, I don’t know yet where I am in my breast cancer journey but you’ve all given me a chance for a positive future and your care combined has given me the very best start.

So to the Breast screening team, the breast clinic in Glasgow, the whole team at RAH Hospital Paisley and Bishopton medical practice, thank you so much.

Dear Please attend your breast screening

I was so sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis but glad to hear that you are recovering well at home with your loved ones. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for taking the time to get in touch and give us such wonderful feedback from your experience, especially so soon after surgery!

I was delighted to know that the team here helped you through this really difficult time and that they were able to support. I am also so glad to see that this excellent standard of care was apparent throughout your entire journey so far.

We have a large staff group here at Nelson Mandela Place and I would love to be able to pass on your very kind words, would you be happy to contact me with your details so that I send your feedback to the staff members involved? If you are happy to do so my email address is:

I would also like to thank your for your positivity, despite your diagnosis and I think that your post will encourage more women to attend for this vital and often life saving appointment. I wish you all the very best in the future and hope that you have a very happy and peaceful Christmas.
