"Care from Out of Hours and A+E"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) St John's Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

I’m a fit and well young female and became unwell with some chest and back pain that really worried me, I was reluctant to be seen as I know how busy everywhere is and was worried I was overreacting.

Names totally escaped me so apologies in advance for the vague descriptions. The call handler at NHS 24 was brilliant and took my concerns seriously and I was able to speak to a nurse within in 10 minutes and asked to come to out of hours at St John’s. The NP in St John’s was wonderful (blonde hair with French plaits in) she had such a good bedside manner and put me at ease immediately, she was so friendly and knowledgeable, she again took my symptoms seriously and was thorough with her assessment, so a big thank you to her and if able to identify her just to pass this on, the NHS is lucky to have her.

I was then sent to A+E for further investigations and again all staff were so lovely, the receptionist was very friendly and also patient and professional whilst having to deal with patients in the waiting area speaking to her rudely, if it can also be passed on to the reception staff that I appreciate them greatly and that she done such a good job as I’m sure she always does.

When seen by the triage nurse (dark hair) she again took the time to listen to my concerns, was thorough and absolutely lovely, she was able to chat to me whilst doing everything which put me at ease and again had such a fantastic bed side manner, thank you.

The radiologist that done my chest X-ray was so friendly even though I only met her for a couple of minutes, thank you.

When seen by the medical team the doctor (I think either brown or red hair and done a rotation in gynae in RIE about a year or so ago) was again lovely and chatty, knowledgeable and thorough and done bloods etc to rule out a PE. Again thank you and her cannulation skills were impressive considering I was very dehydrated.

Lastly thank you to the nurse and csw that was on that part of A+E both were lovely and when asked if I could get painkillers this was done very quickly. I also noticed how much respect they had when they were treating other patients, so thank you!
